Justin Torres raises some interesting points in his review of Arthur Levine's new report on education leadership programs (see "Levine versus the ed schools"). In particular, I think the idea of folding education leadership programs into M.B.A. programs is very timely. I recall thinking about that very issue when I was working on my education administration certification at Syracuse University. My brother has an M.B.A. and I am always impressed with the amount of direct, practical knowledge he learned and applies to his work on a daily basis. I am a high school principal and many of my most pressing daily issues - the master schedule, the budget, the physical plant, community relations - were almost never (if ever at all) addressed in my program. I hope that some forward-thinking university takes on that very challenge.
