English Learners now comprise roughly one in six American students. Yet, our knowledge of how well they are served in schools hasn't kept pace with their growth. We know alarmingly little about the long-term outcomes of English Learners who enroll in either traditional schools or charter schools, or about how the sectors approach the unique challenges and opportunities that are associated with educating this population. Which sector is getting the best results with this student group over the short and long term? And how have English Learners’ academic outcomes evolved in Texas, a state that is home to a fifth of the country’s English Learners?
Join the Thomas B. Fordham Institute on May 22 at 1:00pm ET to discuss experiences working with English Learners in the charter sector, the specific instructional models and strategies used, and the importance of state and local policies in strengthening teaching and learning for this growing population of students.
