During an interesting state-wide Public Television teleconference (and, if you click here, you can find it on the world wide web) yesterday, New York State Education Commissioner David Steiner and his Deputy John King offer an interesting preview?of the mechanics of Race to the Top.
King is clearly the nuts-and-bolts guy here?despite a?soft voice and quiet demeanor, he is articulate and smart?while the Commish comes in with the energetic and engaged human touch.?Steiner, a gifted communicator, has a knack for user-friendly. ?Communication, communication, communication,? he said toward the end of this hour-long discussion (boredom alert: there's a PowerPoint involved), which included fielding questions from email viewers and members of a studio audience.
There are no Emmies in this broadcast, but it's a quick peak behind the RttT curtain and should be required viewing for policymakers and their students.
