Iowa Gov. Culver and reform

Iowa Gov. Culver and reform
11.20.2009

Iowa Governor Chet Culver is obviously auditioning for Democrats For Education Reform 's Ed Reformer of the month.

First, channeling these guys , he says he wants to leverage the recession to make needed changes .

Iowa Gov. Chet Culver delivered a somber budget lesson to school board members from across the state Thursday, but argued financial constraints offer a historic opportunity for reforms.??Culver said the state has to change the way it looks at funding schools and find more efficiencies and cost savings.??"I believe now is the time to challenge this state to rethink education," Culver said

Then this on the Race to the Top :

Gov. Chet Culver said today that Iowa will go after up to $175 million in federal money for schools, but there are strings attached: Schools in Iowa must change.?????One thing is for certain: Iowa's school system will not look the same a year from now as it does today,??? Culver told hundreds of school officials at the Iowa Association of School Boards convention in Des Moines. ???I believe we have to look seriously at reforming certain aspects of our education system.???

Calling Joe Williams !
