Fordham's recent survey of education-school professors, Cracks in the Ivory Tower? The Views of Education Professors Circa 2010, reveals a remarkable openness among teachers of teachers to many K-12 reform initiatives sweeping the reform landscape today. Still, professors remain divided on many issues, including the idea of common K-12 standards. While 72 percent of the American public supports the adoption of a national system of standards, education professors are less likely to welcome common standards with open arms. A considerable portion of education professors report that they are ?not sure? about common standards?but maybe increased familiarity with the challenges, pros, and cons of such standards will help them make up their minds.
