Gadfly is charmed that Secretary Margaret Spellings has appointed the very able Christopher Doherty to serve as the "acting" head of the Office of Innovation and Improvement, replacing (at least temporarily) Nina (see here). Chris is best known for his role leading the massive Reading First program over the past four years, but in his previous life he ran a network of charter-like schools in Baltimore. He is smart, savvy and a strong advocate for education reform. Perhaps we should give Secretary Spellings the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she's for choice and innovation after all.
