More damage control from Arne Duncan

Michael J. Petrilli
5.4.2010

The campaign continues to dispel the myth that ?stakeholder buy-in? is the key to winning Round Two of Race to the Top. The topic is the subject of the National Journal's education experts blog today, which features a submission from Arne Duncan himself. The key paragraph:

Some have misread our intent in designing RTT believing that watered-down reforms with broad buy-in is the best strategy. Nothing could be further from the truth; only the best and boldest plans will win. We are challenging all elements of the educational system to get better, not in one or two areas that can lead to incremental improvements, but in every area simultaneously. Above all, we will reward political will, leadership and the courage to make the best choices for students.

Of course, as others have noted, Duncan wouldn't need to be blogging about this had he not made such a big deal about the union buy-in garnered by Delaware and Tennessee, winners of RTT Round One.

For more astute analysis, read Andy's post here.
