Once upon a time, education reform concerned itself with fixing "the system." Then we moved into our current fascination with fixing (and creating) individual schools. But as summarized nicely in this Washington Post op-ed by Melinda Gates, we're now moving into a new phase, with a focus on individual teachers. (And thus her piece's apt and literal title, "Education reform, one classroom at a time.") And then there are online learning enthusiasts and others who talk about customizing learning experiences for the individual child. If this trend continues, within ten years we'll be talking about education at the cellular, maybe even molecular, level.
