The Cato Institute recently issued this 14-page paper by veteran crusader Myron Lieberman, arguing that public-school teachers themselves are ill-served by the monopoly that results from having just two teacher unions (one in most places) and that they'd be better off with greater competition among providers of "representation." "Such reform would open up competition to non-membership organizations, solo entrepreneurs, negotiators, lawyers, and college bargaining companies. Teachers would retain the right to go without an exclusive representative, and each representation option would compete against all the others."
