A first look at today's most important education news:

Fordham's latest

"A point-by-point rebuttal of today’s anti-Common Core op-ed in the Wall Street Journal," by Michael J. Petrilli, Flypaper

"A school for the gifted: Menlo Park Academy," by Ellen Belcher, Ohio Gadfly Daily

Anthony Weiner made his first foray as a mayoral candidate in an education debate yesterday, where he argued that the debate over charter schools was emotional and “overblown” and blew off a question on whether Eva Moskowitz received “unfair special treatment” from Bloomberg. (Wall Street Journal and New York Times)

Among other things included in new legislation passed by Texas lawmakers and headed for the governor’s desk, state graduation requirements will be scaled back. (Star-Telegram and Curriculum Matters)

(Associated Press and Chicago Tribune)
