- I didn’t find any local news worth clipping today, so how about a national story with lots of Ohio content instead? Cool. The Washington Post, to my ears, is sounding an alarm in this piece about a blurring of the line between church and state due to rapidly-expanding private school vouchers (and ESAs). Students using vouchers (and ESAs), as I know you already know, go primarily to religious-affiliated schools because…that’s who primarily opens and operates private schools. Been that way for a long time, as has Ohio’s commitment to supporting their educational missions with taxpayer funds for transportation, textbooks, and other student supports. But now it’s serious…I think. Honestly, there isn’t much in the way of harm to public schools enumerated here, especially in Ohio. Honestly, aside from a brief reference to the voucher groucher lawsuit here in the Buckeye State (which is only about the Benjamins), it seems only the journalists themselves are putting together the “families want private schools”, “most private schools are religious”, and “church and state” puzzle pieces and discussing it…with a side of “vibes” to complete their picture. (Washington Post, 6/3/24)
