Only one clip today, but it’s another doozy.
- The editorial board of Cleveland.com weighed in this weekend on Governor DeWine’s effort to bring the science of reading firmly into Ohio’s schools and to just as firmly purge whole language instruction from them. Their take is…well, let’s say it’s “research base” is not exactly sturdy. “DeWine’s initiative,” they write, “is by no means drawing a universal welcome from educators. And that’s not surprising, given the incredibly complex learning interplay between the brain, language and reading. Moreover, it sometimes seems in the United States generally that everybody is deemed an expert on public education—except the women and men trained to provide it.” It only gets worse from there.
