- Nothing new or revelational in this national piece on the Ohio voucher grouchers’ lawsuit, I reckon. Fordham’s Chad Aldis is quoted giving a reminder that there is a sliding scale of voucher amounts based on family income these days, but that point is not really relevant to the majority of the grouchers’ many noted complaints, which otherwise stand without much analysis or context. **cough cough**enrollment declines in districts**cough cough** I’m still feeling pretty good about vouchers’ chances in front of the judge myself (Unicorn Proud, amiright?), especially if this is the extent of the outrage and the quality of the arguments that are currently being mustered in evidence against them. (The Nation, 12/2/24)
- I am not a big proponent of “fairness” as a policy position (“Life ain’t fair,” as my parents used to say), but it does feel a little bit like stacking the deck to include dropout recovery charter schools in the same list as traditional district and gen ed charter schools in terms of chronic student absenteeism rates. But hey, the numbers is the numbers, so by all means do up your chart like you want. But I will say that any traditional district school building sitting at the same levels on that list as dropout recovery schools should understand how very bad that looks for them. Especially with the deck stacked entirely in their favor (see also Clip #1, above). (Cincinnati Enquirer, 11/28/24)
