- The powers that be in Youngstown City Schools—all of them—seem to be looking forward to the day that local control will be fully re-established in the district now that the state budget bill has changed the original way out of ADC control codified in HB 70. (FYI, this Friday marks the sixth anniversary of the signing of that bill. So plan your observances accordingly.) Luckily for them, the way out is very clear: All they need is to make a plan and execute it. Q.E.D., right? So why do I get the impression from this piece that it will be neither easy nor peasy for them? (Vindy.com, 7/11/21)
- As you are no doubt aware, however, the original way out of ADC control was pretty simple too: raise and keep your report card grade out of the gutter for three years straight and Bob’s your uncle. However, reading the wide gamut of opinions on the new (and the old) report card system (including the point of rating schools and districts at all) from members of the Cleveland.com editorial board, I can see that perhaps that pathway out of ADC control sounded simpler to me than it must have to other people. - A 20-year Toledo City Schools veteran is taking over from Escuela SMART’s founding principal this fall. According to this sunny profile, the school for bilingual Spanish-speaking students will remain as unique a community for its students and families as it was when it was a “not entirely sustainable” (ouch)
but popular alternative to district schoolscharter school. (Toledo Blade, 7/10/21)
