- Always an interesting day when we have only opinion pieces to discuss here in the Bites. First up, Dublin City Schools Superintendent John Marschhausen wears many hats. And from every one of his perspectives—K-12 boss, college board officer, state-level working group member—the good doctor sees nothing but upside to Governor DeWine’s proposal to offer a renewable college scholarship to the top 5 percent of high school graduates who choose to go on to higher education here in Ohio. - Speaking of different worlds, the editorial board of Vindy.com wonders in some detail why the good people on both sides of the school funding issue can’t just “come together” to resolve their differences and embrace what the ed board sees as their common end goal of…. Look, I can continue to describe the utopian Wishland they construct here—which in my estimation misunderstands the number and definition of the “sides”, the issues that each stands for, and what their goals are for a start—or I can just stop now and you can figure out that as well-intentioned as they are, these guys have boiled things down much farther than reality currently allows. But at least they do answer their own question as to why their simple solution can’t/won’t/isn’t about to happen. (Vindy.com, 6/4/23)
