- In case you missed it, the Ohio Senate passed the state budget bill yesterday. This coverage looks at big education-related provisions currently in the bill, including voucher expansion and elimination of some unneeded school funding guarantees, among other non-education items. Lots more in there that we care about, but not much media coverage of it all yet. The bill goes back to the House. (WOUB-FM, Athens, 6/16/23)
- However, the Lorain City Schools hype machine could not stay quiet over one particular amendment added to the budget bill in the Senate about which they were overjoyed: The one that dissolves their academic distress commission (that things still exists?) and returns full control to their elected school board despite them having not met a majority of the benchmarks in their turnaround plan. For good measure, the amendment even spares them from the performance audit requirement previously called for by legislators. Truly a great day for the adults of Lorain.
