- I must admit that I didn’t read or watch yesterday’s budget testimony in the Senate Primary and Secondary Education Committee yesterday. (I’ll be sure to be watching today, though, boss. Count on it!) I assume that the State Superintendent of Public Instruction had a lot of items on his mind—given that he’s the K-12 education poobah of Ohio and that the budget bill is a veritable Christmas stocking full of presents for literally everyone involved in all corners of the sector—but the Gongwer coverage stuck to two specific, charter school related items upon which he testified and was questioned. (Gongwer Ohio, 5/4/21)
- Speaking of charter schools, here’s a look at the pandemic-remediation plan for students at Horizon Science Academy of Lorain this summer. Sounds pretty great to me. Or, as the school’s community engagement coordinator put it: “It’ll be a laser focus on academics and lots of rigorous instruction.” (Morning Journal, 5/4/21) Here, for your comparison if you wish, is a somewhat briefer look at the summer plans in Avon Lake City Schools and Cleveland Metropolitan School District. (WKYC-TV, Cleveland, 5/4/21) There’s a bit more detail on CMSD’s summer “finish, enrich and engage” plan here. (The Land, 5/4/21)
