- Not much education news to chat about today. The leaders of Ohio’s teachers unions have several feelings to express regarding Governor DeWine’s plans for Covid vaccinations and school reopenings. (The 74 Million, 1/8/21)
- The state board of education is having its first meeting of the year this week. It will include three brand new elected members, one old new elected member, and one new appointed member. I’m sure it will be a hoot. (Gongwer Ohio, 1/8/21)
- Speaking of boards, it has been one year since a slate of newly-elected school board members took office in Akron City Schools and three months since a group of local nonprofits and corporations which have “significant investments” in the district sent a letter to that school board about which folks are still having several feelings. Those feelings are fully expressed in this long piece. The issue seems to revolve around the length of school board meetings this past year (four hours now vs. one-ish in the past) and the board vote tallies on certain issues this year (split votes now vs. unanimous-ish in the past), about which those community leaders also have several feelings. See what I said? Slow news day. (Akron Beacon Journal, 1/11/21)
