  1. Let’s start with some kudos—from the editorial team that oversees Ogden Newspapers Group to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and all of its partners—on the creation of two new dashboard tools, officially launched (and lauded in these clips) last week. The tools allow the public to track data on high school graduates’ college enrollment and completion, educational attainment, employment, and earnings. Say ye eds: “Better ways to understand the data give us better ways to solve the problem. And the department was wise to make all this information available to everyone. It will take some outside-the-box thinking to make the measurable improvements our students deserve — and all of us need.” Nice! (Norwalk Reflector, 9/4/26)

  2. I’m not sure if this is a new thing related to the big school closure/consolidation effort underway this year, or something they do every year, but Cleveland Metropolitan School District will be opening an official school transfer request portal on Tuesday next week. It will be open through Friday. “Requesting a transfer does not guarantee students will be able to switch schools,” CMSD spokesperson Darrielle Snipes tells Signal Cleveland, because “not all schools and grade levels have open spots. For this reason, it’s important that students continue attending their current school while they wait to hear back.” After that slightly fatalistic explainer, I find myself wondering what within-district options will be available for families whose schools are not working for their kids at other times outside this window. I do know that most charter, private, STEM, and interdistrict open enrollment options will consider kids almost any time in the year. For whatever that fact is worth to you… (Signal Cleveland, 9/3/26)
