  1. Unfortunately, the full text of this editorial is subscriber-only content and I ain’t one. But, because it highlights our newly-released science of reading implementation report and because its authors appear to be in full support of Aaron’s recommendations of how to continue the good work underway, here it is for the record. (Tribune Chronicle, 8/19/26)

  2. School choice is on the rise in Ohio. Example one: This is a terrific, in-depth look at four new charter schools coming to Cleveland—two this fall and two next fall. Kudos once again to reporter Franziska Wild for foregrounding the people, the school cultures, and the educational missions driving these new public school options. Great stuff. (Signal Cleveland, 8/20/26) This companion piece focuses on a number of organizations—both local and national—that have been working diligently to make sure that the new choices coming online in northeast Ohio are high quality and providing innovative educational models not otherwise available to families. Once again full of important detail. However, I have to issue a tiny little demerit to reporter Wild this time for calling Bio-Med Science Academy a “charter-like school”. It is, of course, one of Ohio’s eight (that’s all there is?!) independent STEM schools. And it is also on the grow, which makes it example two of school choice on the rise. (Signal Cleveland, 8/20/26)

  3. Example three: Since this piece comes to us direct from the Vatican, it is understandably full of Catholic evangelical language which you can take or leave. (Popes gonna pope, amiright?) But it is worth a bit of your time regardless because it quotes Bishop Earl K. Fernandes, leader of the Diocese of Columbus, saying his local Catholic schools are experiencing “phenomenal growth”. Existing schools are nearly full, the diocese will soon open its first new K-8 school in more than 30 years, and (breaking news to me) plans are underway to build a new high school here soon. Wowza! Good News, indeed. (Vatican News, 8/21/26)
