  1. The only person in this piece on Ohio’s efforts to curtail cellphone usage in schools who is talking about academics is Gov. DeWine (and that quote of his dates back to the yesteryear of April). Everyone else is discussing student self-regulation, kids alleviating their boredom without screens (yes, school is one of those boring things), teaching them coping skills, etc. Additionally, we should not plan to punish kids who defy the bans because that doesn’t teach them any of the above skills. School cellphone bans are even lauded as a strike against evil corporations who dare to advertise via phone notifications. (Toledo Blade, 5/31/25)

  2. Staying in Toledo, here is more good stuff from one of Toledo City Schools’ career academies. This time, it’s the Natural Science Technology Center part of the Aerospace and Natural Science Academy (that’s a weird combo though, amiright?). We get a look at forestry program students harvesting trees on district property and turning the raw wood into usable planks to make picnic tables or something. There’s a reference to YouTube in here (thanks for bringing it back into the real world, supe), but for the most part it reads like kids getting schooled at Lumberjack Lifeskills Institute.
