- Our Aaron Churchill is quoted here on provisions of Senate Bill 19 that are designed to improve math instruction of Ohio students, in a process akin to the science of reading. Ohio, he says, “has way too many kids who are just struggling with the basics.” He explains that passage of SB 19 will, among other things, allow the state to say, “Okay, there’s probably some textbooks and materials that are more aligned with best practices” and, of course, some that definitely are not aligned and should be dumped. (Columbus Dispatch, 6/10/26) SB 19 passed in the House of Representatives late yesterday on a vote of 81-11. But not before it was amended to include a lot of other education-related proposals. Now if only Cuyahoga County could get an independent STEM school option… (Signal Cleveland, 6/9/26)
