- In case you missed it, Dayton gajillionaire businessman Larry Connor went into space last week, buying himself a berth on the International Space Station for eight days. On Tuesday, Connor spoke live with students at the Dayton Regional STEM School. (WYSO-FM, Yellow Springs, 4/12/22)
- Speaking of rocketing to the top, the state board of education not only conducted state supe finalist interviews this week, they also hammered out the process by which that list of finalists will be whittled down toward a final choice. Wonder which of those efforts was harder for ‘em? (Gongwer Ohio, 4/11/22)
- One of the people on that finalist list is Tom Hosler, currently the superintendent of Perrysburg Exempted Village Schools in suburban Toledo. Last week, he was attempting to explain to his elected school board the various student enrollment figures for the district as tallied by different reporting methods and how they can vary by as much as 600 kids depending on who and when you ask. - I don’t want to make too much of this since it seems like it’s mostly a political thing (icky), but there are just so many weird things in the proposal that I have to at least ask you, as ever, if it also seems odd to you too. (Toledo Blade, 4/11/22) Here’s another look at the same pitch. Among the oddities I clocked: Mandatory for districts to offer but optional for both teachers and students to participate; charter and private school kids can participate, but only at a district building; and weren’t these the same folks saying that the Covid slide didn’t exist?
