- Why so defensive, Parmesans? (For surely that is what citizens of Parma are called.) This “new school” for students with autism sounds pretty good. If so, why not just sell it on its merits for students and families, rather than continually stressing how great it is that you can keep these parents from going “elsewhere” for services by doing it? We all know what you mean there, by the way. Even the reporter hedges at the end by pointing out that families not “fortunate” enough to be Parmesans (for only those who can afford to live in Parma can have the “fortune” to take advantage of this brand new, why-didn’t-we-think-of-this-10-years-ago opportunity) can use a state voucher program to help them. - I hesitate to clip this, given its serious nature, but I feel like there are a number of important school discipline issues at play here. Not least of which is that we’re talking about elementary school age students. (Marion Star, 3/30/22)

- Mansfield City Schools this week announced that it will be changing the length of its school year district-wide. They added days to make sure that kids impacted by three Covid-disrupted school years get as much teaching and learning time as possible, right? Wrong. Closing up shop early this year so that teachers won’t have to move classrooms to a new building beyond their contracted end date. And because all that disrupted learning stuff is well in hand, I’m sure. Honestly, who even cares at this point? (Richland Source, 3/29/22)
- The Ohio Department of Higher Education is sending money to universities across the state to help combat the state’s teacher shortage problem. Lots of money. Here’s a look at Baldwin Wallace University’s plans for using the money to “help remove barriers for individuals looking to begin a career in education while fulfilling a workforce need in critical areas such as STEM instruction and special education.” Check it out.
