- Chad Aldis is among the voices quoted in this piece on the state of vouchers in Ohio—very briefly, and toward the bottom. Lots of other words before that, though. Don’t you worry. (The 74, 3/18/24)
- Here’s a look at some of the afterschool programs funded by Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Covid-relief dollars, all of which are likely to be on the chopping block soon due to the expiration of those funds and the inevitable budget hole the district faces on the other side. They sound great, don’t they? Almost better than the actual schools. Hmmmm… (Statehouse News, 3/18/27) Meanwhile, as part of their no-stone-unturned efforts to get money to fill that budget hole, CMSD leaders (and their lawyers, I’m sure) are planning to challenge the tax valuations, and granted abatements, of a bunch of valuable properties in Cleveland. This is called “a long game” to increase revenue since any abatement changes can’t go into effect until the current ones expire…sometime in the mid-2030s. Personally, I’d call it “a whole enchilada” approach, since the properties of interest not only include fancy condos but also gas stations, a mobile home park, and a Taco Bell. How much do those lawyers charge, though, do you think? Just out of curiosity. (Signal Cleveland, 3/19/24)
