- This piece works hard to tell us the good news about test score data in Cincinnati City Schools. There is growth in evidence, and in some cases more growth than many other large urban districts in Ohio and elsewhere. I looked everywhere for the bad news—that those test scores are still nowhere near where they were in 2019 and that multiple grade cohorts of students have been passed along without being proficient in math or reading despite many years and many billions of dollars if supposed effort post-pandemic—but I did not see it in print. - That same recent test score data is referenced briefly in this piece, focusing mainly on the bad news. It’s about newly-permanent Dayton City Schools superintendent David Lawrence and his plans to improve the district. The dude remains somewhat fixated on the local students attending charter schools instead of the district, to the point that even discussion of improving the academic outcomes of middle schools is more about keeping/attracting kids than simply doing the job of teaching students to a high level.
