- Another week, another story about a school of choice in the Cleveland area that is on the grow and making sure their expansion will serve both students and the community. This time, it’s Urban Community School, a K-8 private school with a nearly 60-year history in Ohio City making an $11 million commitment to OC and all of the surrounding neighborhoods. Awesome! (NEOTrans blog, 2/10/25) As a comparison, take a look at this proposal for how Akron City Schools might make their Community Learning Center buildings “more friendly” toward non-district community uses. If this plan makes things easier, I shudder to think how labyrinthine it must be now. (Signal Akron, 2/12/25)
- It may have been heavy snow that fell on the roof of Ashtabula’s Lakeside High School back in November, as we have been discussing here since December. But it was another substance altogether that fell on the floor of the House Education Committee over the last week if you ask me, as legislators heard ridiculous arguments about why the district needs a waiver from required class hours despite many weeks and many options to keep their students’ education going.
