- Let’s end our joint National School Choice Week/Catholic Schools Week celebrations with this one awesome clip. At the end of 2025, we heard that two new Catholic schools were in the works here in Columbus. At this timely moment, here are details on the first of those: Ave Maria Academy in Powell, planning to open this fall serving Kindergarten and pre-K students and expanding by one grade level each year until it reaches 8th grade. Plenty of information for you here on its founding leaders and its Catholic classical education model. But the biggest news, IMO, is that this will be the first new diocesan Catholic school in central Ohio in 30 years, not counting the independent(ly awesome) Cristo Rey High School.
