desperately hopedsuspected otherwise, Columbus City Schools’ building closure “process” remained a chaotic embarrassment upon returning to “action” with a meeting last night. The new consultant hired to help out, not surprisingly, was not able to aid the elected school board get back on track. (Columbus Dispatch, 11/15/24) - Speaking of august elected bodies (were we?), there lots going on in this story of the Hilliard City Council and their rejection of a change of use request on a foreclosed office property in their jurisdiction. We won’t talk about all of the possible reasons the Noor Islamic Center’s request was denied earlier this week—even after numerous capitulations by the group to what seem to this MCRP degree holder to be egregious meddling in their proposed plans. On top of all the other possible reasons given in this piece, the evidence suggests we can’t rule out the old “stopping school competition” chestnut that we’ve been hearing so much about in zoning boards and city councils around the state recently. Said attorney Nathan Painter, a former Hilliard City Council member himself and a current board of zoning appeals member: “I’ve never seen an applicant treated in this manner.” To which I say: Buckle up, esquire.
