- Only two pieces of Bites-worthy news today. First up, from the Is Nothing Sacred? File, thieves broke into the future home of Dayton City Schools’ central office. It is currently under construction, as we have noted here previously, and the nefarious crooks got away with thousands of dollars of supplies and equipment. Luckily, it’s just money. - Lastly, the good folks at Vindy.com got some one-on-one time with Governor DeWine last week and they had HB 70 on their minds. Turns out the governor is not a fan of the current iteration of academic distress commissions now and would like a change. He seems particularly troubled by the impending dissolution of the elected school board in Youngstown. But he has some definite ideas of what he wants to see in an ADC replacement plan and thus is disinclined to let the current ADC districts off the hook until such a replacement is at hand. It is also interesting to note that DeWine’s rhetoric on the topic has cooled considerably from the campaign trail. From “we have a moral obligation” to help struggling students to “The state has some responsibility to make sure these children have a quality education.” Being governor sure can change a fella’s outlook.
