  1. St. Francis DeSales, a Toledo Catholic school currently serving boys in grades 7-12, announced this week that it will be expanding down to include grade 6 and will create a new middle school separate from high school at the same time. “A successful middle-school experience is about more than preparing students academically for high school,” said school principal John Hall. “It’s about helping young men develop independence, take ownership of their learning, build meaningful relationships and grow in their faith. The Academy gives us an opportunity to be more intentional about each of these areas during a formative stage of our students’ lives.” This is particularly good news for local families following the announcement a few weeks ago of the closing of another Catholic high school in the area. DeSales Academy is aiming for a fall 2028 launch. And of course I confirmed that they accept EdChoice Scholarship students for you guys, because I knew you would ask. (Toledo Blade, 10/26/26)

  2. The intention of this story is, it seems, to collect as many comments as possible connecting Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb and charter schools in the most negative way possible. bad-mouth charter schools. The result must focus more on Bibb-adjacent folks (plenty of those) and shading Bibb’s own education-adjacent comments, because he hasn’t said much about school choice one way or the other during either his campaigns or his tenure in office. And indeed the most-direct quote we’re given—“The best thing we can do is make CMSD the best damn school district so those parents choose CMSD over those failing charter schools.”—says at least as much about the district IMO as it does about charter schools. (Signal Cleveland, 10/27/26) Speaking of which: Mayor Bibb is looking to fill two open seats on the CMSD board. If you fit the eligibility criteria and are ready to dig in and help build that damnably-good district Bossman is looking for, you have until November 13 to apply. (Signal Cleveland, 10/28/26)
