Brian Fitzpatrick is the National Research Manager at the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, where he conducts or manages research aimed at enhancing excellence for students and choice for families throughout the U.S K-12 education system. Prior to joining Fordham, he was a Senior Research Scientist at Gibson Consulting, where he worked with school districts to use data to improve instructional practices. This included authoring dozens of reports, including award-winning work for one of the U.S.'s largest school districts. He has also authored multiple articles in top peer-reviewed education research journals like Educational Researcher, Sociology of Education, and the American Educational Research Journal. This research has been covered by USA Today, The CDC, and Chalkbeat. He is also an expert in data management and quantitative methods and is a certified reviewer with the What Works Clearinghouse. He earned his PhD in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame. Brian began his career as a middle school math teacher in Louisiana.
