Today, Governor DeWine announced the appointment of Steve Dackin as Director of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
“Governor DeWine has made a fantastic choice to serve as the first director of the new Department of Education and Workforce,” said Vice President for Ohio Policy Chad Aldis. “Steve Dackin is a widely respected leader and educator who has served Ohio students for decades in a wide variety of roles including as a teacher, principal, and superintendent.”
“For too long, education governance in the state has suffered from a lack of direction, a diffuse structure, and a tendency to let off the gas just when students need their leaders to follow through and robustly implement policy,” Aldis added. “Given Steve Dackin’s demonstrated history of success and bold leadership, Governor DeWine’s appointment makes clear that the administration intends to tackle the biggest challenges facing Ohio students including low levels of literacy and numeracy, and too few students being prepared for life after high school whether that is going to college or directly into a high-wage, high-skill job. We look forward to working with Director Dackin to improve educational outcomes for all students in Ohio.”
