Laurel Horn

Leadership for Education Equity, Policy and Advocacy Fellow

Laurel Horn is a Leadership for Education Equity, Policy and Advocacy Fellow at the Fordham Institute. Laurel just finished her fifth year teaching ninth-grade special education at Thurgood Marshall Academy, a public charter high school in Washington, D.C. At TMA Laurel redesigned the ninth-grade English curriculum to align with the Common Core Standards; she also collaborates with the TMA Academic Director to revise practices around family engagement. Outside of the classroom, Laurel founded the TMA Wilderness Club as well as a Women’s College Cohort and coaches the school’s varsity volleyball team. Laurel was a Family Engagement Teacher Fellow with the Flamboyan Family Foundation and a Kurt Hahn Fellow with North Carolina Outward Bound. She is also a winner of the Teach For America Social Innovation Challenge.

Laurel earned her BA in Honors Psychology and Hispanic Studies from Scripps College and an MEd in K-12 Special Education from George Mason University.
